Entrepreneurship and Small Business

You don’t need an MBA degree to be a successful Entrepreneur!

Definition of an entrepreneur is someone with the foresight, drive, and ambition to take a risk and solve business or consumer problems, for a profit.

An important part of entrepreneurship comes from seeing something that others don’t or will not recognize as an opportunity worth pursuing because there’s no obvious solution in sight; plus you have enough drive and ambition so your risk-taking pays off! Entrepreneurship and Small Business Certification (ESB) validates skills and knowledge for those interested in core business principles, recognizes business opportunities, and recognizes a value proposition.

Being their own BOSS is the number one reason people become entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs need to have passion and innovative ideas, as well as persistence – they don’t take no for an answer! Being resourceful with your skills can make all of those risks worth taking in order to achieve success: discipline will keep you working hard even when faced with obstacles or challenges; good luck isn’t always around so having foundational knowledge becomes key to your success.

Benefits of hiring people with an entrepreneurial mindset or spirit

The willingness to take risks and accept failure is a unique skill that isn’t relevant solely in starting a business. It helps you to minimize your fear of taking chances, while still expecting a certain level of success from yourself. It will also help you to keep moving forward even when things are difficult. Additionally, being able to plan ahead and foresee potential problems (a key part of an entrepreneurial mindset) will help you to live a more organized, less stressful life. In short, this will help you to better manage your career.

What is the Entrepreneurship and Small Business Certification (ESB)?

The ESB certification is built to test and validate foundation-level concepts and knowledge in entrepreneurship and small business management. These core concepts include entrepreneurship; recognizing and evaluating opportunities; planning for, starting, and operating a business; marketing and sales; venture capital and seed funding; and financial management.

Country-Specific Exam versus Universal Exam

  • ESB Country-specific exams test specific knowledge about doing business in a particular country. Currency and terminology are targeted to specific countries. ESB candidates should select a country-specific exam when available.
  • ESB Universal exams are suitable for any ESB candidate around the world. All currencies are in Euros.

All ESB exams use the same Objective Domains and are delivered through Certiport.

Master Certification in Entrepreneurship

Candidates who earn Intuit’s Design for Delight Innovator Certification and Certiport’s Entrepreneurship and Small Business certification V.2, will receive the Master Certification in Entrepreneurship. Individuals who receive this certificate will have exhibited an understanding of concepts related to entrepreneurship, small business, and business design. The Master Certification in Entrepreneurship will become available in the spring of 2021.

The Master Certification in Entrepreneurship is the next step in validating an understanding of essential business principles but expands the scope to include design thinking. This certification is earned by completing the ESB certification as well as Intuit’s Design for Delight Innovator Certification. The Design for Delight Innovator certification focuses on three domains surrounding design thinking:

  • Deep Customer Empathy – Understanding customers, their pain points, and reasons for their actions to help innovate and discover solutions.
  • Go Broad to Go Narrow – Brainstorming broad potential solutions and then narrowing those to determine which will most likely delight the customer and solve the problem.
  • Rapid Experiments with Customers – Experimenting and testing solutions with real customers to determine if problems will be solved.

Successfully completing the Design for Delight Innovator Certification and the Entrepreneurship in Small Business Certification v.2, will result in being awarded the Master Certification in Entrepreneurship.
